Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, I've called Memphis, Tennessee home now for the past 15 years. This city's DIY "Grit'n'Grind" spirit permeates everything about its arts scene, from the underground punk bands playing in living rooms in Midtown to the scrappy upstart theatre companies challenging societal norms by rehearsing heretical works in church basements. That spirit, that drive, is as much a part of me as my rapidly receding hairline. I presently reside just outside the city with my badass wife, amazing daughter, two mischievous boys, two feisty pups and a pair of black cats.
My passion for the theatre arts was ignited at Freed-Hardeman University where I earned my B.A. in Theatre Performance. From there I moved to Memphis to earn my MFA in Scenic Design at the University of Memphis. After realizing I was in over my head with the course load , I dropped out of my MFA program but continued to tirelessly pursue work both on stage and off in the Memphis area and the eastern United States. I've built props in North Carolina, designed 9 shows in 9 weeks in upstate New York, worked on new, immersive stories in the mid-south, all while holding down various day jobs to fuel my fire.
My work always seeks to blur the line between the audience and the performance, sometimes drawing the audience onto the set itself. Theatre allows us to confront and explore ideas about who we are and where we live in a more immediate and vital way than any other medium. By drawing the audience further into the world of the show, I believe true transformation can happen.
